President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych has delivered a speech in Kyiv, on Volodymyr's hill on the occasion of the Independence Day, ForUm correspondent reports.
"Here, at the bottom of the monument to Saint Volodymyr, we have a great opportunity to turn to the ancient spiritual sources of our people. On these hills, our ancestors made their spiritual decisive choice. Christianity, brought in Kyiv Rus by duke Volodymyr, has become a spiritual guide, being followed by Slavic people until now," the Head of State declared.
The President underlined that without developing spirituality and faith Ukraine will not be able to find feet as a strong state. "With God in hearts our ancestors were fighting for freedom, truth and for the state itself. Relying on the centuries-long wisdom of our people we also go surely ahead," Yanukovych noted.
