Today, the share of green energy in the Ukrainian energy system is less than 1%, despite the years of talks about the prospects of solar and wind power in electricity generating. More than 100 facilities and more than 60 private companies producing green energy are financed by cross subsidizing from all other forms of generation and the industry as the largest consumer of electricity, analyst of the Profit Garant investment company Serhiy Dubov said.

In 2011, the installed capacity of green power plants increased by more than 2.5 times. This occurred mainly due to Crimean solar power plants whose capacity has grown 54-fold.
Serhiy Dubov estimated that it is 320 times less than a single power unit, as the cost of the its construction is 12 times greater than of the 185 MW solar capacities.

The electricity price for the Ukrainian population remains one of the lowest in Europe. However, it could change if the country starts to increase rapidly the electricity production from renewable sources.

Currently, Ukraine is characterized by the practice, when the state invests in private business. Thus, in 2011, the Oschadbank state bank allocated 2.6 billion UAH investments in the development of solar energy. Thus, the state invested in more than half of 100 MW solar plants put into operation in the past year.
