Chairman of the Central Election Commission of Ukraine Volodymyr Shapoval supposes that the problem of the election legitimacy can rise after their holding.
"Even now I'm sure that there will be a problem of legitimacy. In this case, it makes sense to distinguish between internal and external legitimacy. First, the country has two diametrically opposite political camps. The opponents perceive each other not just as opponents, but as enemies often. Therefore, the one who loses, obviously, will not accept the announced results, and will claim that the election results were forged," he said during a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to Ukraine Christoph Weil on Wednesday.
As for the external legitimacy, the head of the CEC assume that some of the international experts, at least at a subconscious level, are disposed "to recognize the election as not quite transparent because of certain aspects".
"Taking into account all these factors, I am ready that despite all the efforts of the Commission to hold elections in accordance with the law, the evaluations may be negative. However, by and large, the CEC wants to get objective, not necessarily positive evaluation," Shapoval said.
"We want to hold elections so that following their results Ukraine has adequate image," he concluded.
