
On August 15, a cruise ship with 70 Ukrainian citizens on board was arrested in the Israeli port Ashdod, speaker of the press service of the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine Oleksandr Dikusarov told a briefing, ForUm correspondent reported.
According to him, there were 340 crew members, including 70 citizens of Ukraine, on the arrested vessel under the flag of Malta. "According to our embassy, the vessel was arrested for unpaid wages to the members of the crew," he informed.
Dikusarov stressed that Ukrainian diplomats in Israel came into contact with a lawyer protecting the interests of the crew members.
"The lawyer suggested Ukrainian sailors to return to Ukraine. However, they, like other members of the crew, refused to come back home. As of today, the lawyer is looking for opportunities to provide the crew with back wages," Dikusarov said.
