Only Ukrainian elite responded sharply to the adoption and signing of the language law in contrast to the Ukrainian society, advisor to the President, head of the Main Department for Humanitarian and Socio-Political Issues of the President’s Administration Hanna Herman said in an interview with the Fifth channel.
"I don’t think this is a big problem. We can see that the society reacted to this very coldly. Ukrainian elite responded sharply to the signing of this law only, but the public did not protest. It means that other values are more important to people, that’s why we will unite Ukraine on other values. Maybe, there will be new jobs, new opportunities for children or social protection. Perhaps, these values are more important to people now," Herman said.
"People who clearly asked for the Russian language, at least as a regional, voted for the President. And the President has implemented his promise," she stressed
In addition, Herman noted a need to increase the percent for implementation of the regional language.
