Less than 1% of Ukrainians vaccinate against the flu, chief pediatric immunologist of Kyiv Fedir Lapiy told a press conference, ForUm correspondent reports.

"If we talk about the effectiveness of such protection as vaccination, let's look at the example of the United States. This country finances the program of vaccination of citizens from the age of six. In 2011-12 in the U.S., more than 60% of the population have been vaccinated against influenza," he said.

The doctor said that in Ukraine, the flu vaccine will be available in the near future. "All the vaccines for 2011-12, designed for the northern hemisphere, have the identical vaccine composition, protecting against influenza virus of A and B types," Lapiy said.

At the same time, the expert said that every dollar invested in the flu vaccine saves 3.5-5 dollars.
