Volumes of gross agricultural production increased by 7.4% in the first half of 2012 compared with the same period of the last year, director of economic development department of the agricultural market Serhiy Kvasha said, the press service of the Ministry of Agricultural Policy and Food reported.

According to the department’s director, high results were achieved due to higher rates in the livestock industry. Its share in gross output in the first half of the year totaled 84.3% or 35.6 billion hryvnia.

"Farmers have increased a number of cow population by 38.6 thousand. It allowed to increase milk production by 2.5%," Kvasha noted.

The expert stressed that the production of gross output increased in all regions, and its cost for last six months amounted to 42.198 billion UAH. The farm business, which produced goods for 24.3 billion hryvnia, played a special role in the formation of GDP in the first half of the year. The largest share in the structure of gross production of animal farms in this category belonged to the milk production - 10.8 billion hryvnia, or 52.7%, the production of livestock and poultry - 8.1 billion hryvnia, eggs - 1.8 billion hryvnia.
