Turkish language may become regional in Kherson

The Turks living in the rural areas of several districts in Kherson region may raise a question on granting their language the status of regional, chairman of the regional council Viktor Pelykh said.

"Turks and Tatars living compactly in rural areas may also decide to implement the law on principles of national language policy. What should we do? We are law-abiding citizens. We will fulfill their decision," Pelykh noted.

The officials of the Kherson regional state administration reported that according to the latest census, 3.736 Turks live in Chaplynka, Novotroyitsk, Bilozerka and some other districts of the region. Most of them live in Chaplynka district – 2.278 people.

The Crimean Tatars living in village Novoalekseevka of Henichesk district has already raised the question of granting Crimean Tatar the status of regional language in the territory of the village.
