The law on national language policy shall ensure the equality of languages used in Ukraine, so it will be improved if necessary, the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych said during the meeting with journalists in Sevastopil, ForUm learned from the President’s press office.

"Some time will pass and we'll see its advantages and disadvantages. It is not a dogma. If there is a need to make some amendments to this law - we will do it," the President said.

Yanukovych reminded that the law has come into force recently, so it is too early to draw any conclusions. "One thing is clear - we are gradually moving towards the European Charter for Languages, and this is very important," the President said.

The President noted that a working group to consider the language law is already established. It includes the authors of the language law and the "people who wanted to work on improving it." "The law should create the conditions of equality for languages used in Ukraine, so that there are no problems in any region and the law complies with the European Charter," Yanukovych said.
