The meeting on the improvement of the language law was held in the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine under the leadership of deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine - Ukraine's healthcare minister Rayisa Bohatyryova.

The meeting was held pursuant to the instruction of the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych, by which he initiated the establishment of a working group involving the public well-known workers of education, science and arts to develop and make proposals for improving the system of legislation on the application of languages in Ukraine.

The meeting was attended by the former President Leonid Kravchuk, writer Ivan Drach, rector of the Taras Shevchenko National Kyiv University Leonid Hubersky, adviser to the President Hanna Herman, culture minister Mykhailo Kulynyak, deputies from the Party of Regions faction Serhiy Kivalov and Vadym Kolesnichenko and others.
According to the Cabinet’s press office, the activity of the group should be aimed at the reduction of tension in society, which arose after the adoption of the law on national language policy.
In addition, the working group will be divided into two subgroups.

The first subgroup will focus on developing proposals for improving the system of legislation on the application of languages in Ukraine in general and amendments to the law on national language policy.

The second subgroup will work on the draft state program of comprehensive development and functioning of the Ukrainian language.
