The Internal Ministry will purchase about 50 thousand means of electronic monitoring, which will be applied to a suspect staying under house arrest, head of the Main Investigative Department of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine Vasyl Farinnik told a briefing, ForUm correspondent reports.
"Now our task is to prepare a provision on the use of electronic monitoring. Then we will have to ordered them, manufacture, and get medical authorization for them. This is a kind of bracelet worn on the hand of defendants and suspects".
In addition, he reported that under the new Code of Criminal Procedure the number of arrests should be reduced. In particular, the Code provides for alternatives to custodial arrest as house arrest, bail, and more.
"The number of arrests in Ukraine for the last 7 months of this year decreased by 12% compared to the corresponding period of the last year. First, we rarely refer with the relevant productions. Second, prosecutors and judges have taken a categorical position, denying prison detention oftener," Farinnik summed up.
