President of the National Olympic Committee Serhiy Bubka said that the Ukrainian side expected exactly the same results our athletes showed at the Summer Olympics in London, he said in an interview with the newspaper Sport-Express in Ukraine.

"In the last Summer Games, 27 medals were a surprise for us. Frankly, we were not even ready. But the Olympics are extremely unpredictable events, and everything can happen. In London, as you see, we have a lot of fourth-fifth places. Competition has increased due to the fact that the geography of the countries fighting for the medals has substantially expanded. But still, we remain in the same range - about twenty medals. We expected approximately the same results on the basis of the World Championships, which took place a year before the Olympics.

According to him, after the Games, we should conduct a thoughtful analysis of the performances in London. "But even now it is clear that we need to work on the development of sports infrastructure, as it used to be in the Soviet Union, and to take care of the appropriate wages for coaching work. Then people will have a motivation and interest in work," he said.

The head of the NOC is not surprised that Ukraine women won the majority of medals at the Olympic Games. "Women saved us in many situations, and we are very pleased that they surprised everyone at the Olympics," Bubka noted.
