Police officers are trained to work under the new criminal procedures, head of the Main Investigative Department of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine Vasyl Farinnik told a briefing, ForUm correspondent reports.

"On 19 November this year, the new Code of Criminal Procedure will come into force. It will be aimed at better protection of victims, as well as at greater protection of the rights of defendants and suspects," he reminded.

In particular, Farinnik said that about two million claims of crimes have been registered this year. "In 12% of cases, criminal cases were initiated, in 78% - the claims were denied and 10% - are those cases when the claims were not accepted. Last year we had 3 million 300 thousand claims, and 2 million 600 thousand claims were denied. In this case, there is a conflict between those who apply to law enforcement agencies and the law enforcement officers," the Interior Ministry official said.

He stressed that under the new Code of Criminal Procedure, all the claims shall be accepted and registered in a special electronic program - the Unified Register of pre-trial investigations. Farinnik reported that the corresponding computer program is currently under development.
