The President’s Administration is completing a bill providing for the establishment of the State Bureau of Investigation, advisor to the President of Ukraine - head of the President’s Administration Main Office for Judicial System Affairs Andriy Portnov told a briefing, ForUm correspondent reports.

According to the advisor to the President, the bureau will deal with the investigation of cases involving law enforcement officers, judges and top officials.

"The new Code of Criminal Procedure, which in eight months will enter into force, provides for the establishment of a new public body to investigate cases involving police officers, prosecutors, the officers of the Security Service, judges and top officials. This body is called the State Bureau of Investigation ... The relevant law is almost developed by the President’s Administration. Currently, the consultations with the international European institutions are being held," Portnov said.

According to him, the new body will automatically acquire the investigative functions of the prosecutor's office.

Portnov said that since the establishment of a new body, prosecutor's office will lose any powers of investigation.
