The working group, initiated by the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych, will develop a modern, comprehensive language legislation, which will ensure language needs of all the citizens of Ukraine, vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Raisa Bohatyryova said, ForUm learned from the President’s press office.
She noted that one of the main tasks of the working group will be the development of amendments to the law on the principles of national language police, adopted by the Parliament on July 3.
"The working group will work on creating a document that would ensure the development and proper functioning of the Ukrainian language, as well as guarantee the free development and use of other native languages for the citizens of Ukraine," she said.
According to the vice Prime Minister, the language issue has led to high politicization of the society, especially the situation worsened during the election campaign. "The language issue needs solution of not a temporary, but of the strategic nature," she added.
She noted that the working group will provide a platform for reaching agreement on the development of modern language legislation in a strategic dimension.
