The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports has approved a structure of the academic year 2012/2013.

According to the article 16 of the law of Ukraine "On general secondary education," the academic year 2012/2013 begins on September 1 with the Day of knowledge and ends no later than July 1, the press service of the Ministry reports.

Academic studies are organized on a semester system: the first semester - from September 1 to December 28, the second semester - from January 14 to May 24 (25 for schools operating on the six-day working week).

"The academic year ends with conducting educational excursions in 1-4 grades (May 27-30), educational excursions and practice in 5-8 and 10 grades (May 27-June 7) and the state final examination of graduates from primary, secondary and high schools," the statement said.

According to the press service, the state final examination for pupils in the fourth grade is held from May 13 to 21, for graduates of the ninth grade - from May 28 to June 11, for graduates of the 11th grade - from May 27 to 31.

The Education Ministry recommends holding the ceremony of education certificates for graduates of the ninth grade on June 11-12, the 11th grade on June 1-2.

There are holidays for pupils during the school year, roughly, the autumn holiday - from October 29 to November 4, the winter holiday - from December 29 to January 13 and the spring holiday - from March 25 to 31.

Taking into account the local characteristics and climatic conditions in consultation with the relevant local education authorities, the structure of the academic year and the schedule of pupils’ holidays can be changed, according to the statement.
