48% of first-grade Odessa pupils to study school program in the Russian language, and 52% in Ukrainian, respectively, chief of the Odessa education department Viktoria Ishchenko informed.
"33 Russian classes will work in all Odessa schools this year, except for the high school #7, where the schooling is carried out in the state language only," the official said.
Ishchenko also informed that parents have a possibility to choose the language of education for their children. It is provided by the city program on preservation and development of the Russian language for 2011-2015 years.
The total number of first-grade pupils amounts to about 8.5 thousand children this year.
