The state program of development of the Ukrainian language should improve the implementation of the state language policy, President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych said during his meeting with the representatives of scientific and creative intelligentsia in Crimea, the press service of the head of state informs.

"The time has come when we should adopt a program of development of the Ukrainian language and it will remove a lot of issues that currently exist in the society," the President said.

He expressed his belief that the program should cover a wide range of issues on the implementation of language policy in Ukraine and be regularly updated. "We have to see what we can make or offer to the country in the coming years," Yanukovych said.

According to the President, the new program of the Ukrainian language development should correspond to the new legislation on the basis of the state language policy. This, according to Yanukovych, will ensure its adequate funding and quality implementation.

Moreover, Yanukovych stressed the timing of this meeting is right, because, in his opinion, the language issue is very sensitive for our society, as the Ukrainian language is endowed with a special political and legal status, which is elevated to the level of constitutional provisions.

The President noted that Ukraine needed to implement such language policy that would allow developing the language relationship for benefit of all citizens without violation of their rights.

Speaking about the events around the language issue in recent times and in previous years, Yanukovych expressed his belief that they were politically motivated.
