Lviv coped well with the holding of Euro 2012, so the city together with the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine is planning to prepare a request to host the Winter Olympic Games 2022, the city director of the EURO 2012 department Oleh Zasadnyi said, the press service of the Lviv city council reported.

"Now it is a stage when cities make a decision to file a request to host Winter Olympics 2022 or not. The first stage will start next year. It was important for us to get the country’s support on the decision to prepare the application. It is an extremely large sum of money, and the city will never be able to allocate such budget.

The decision of the state is very important. That’s why now we work with the International Olympic Committee, the National Olympic Committee and the government of Ukraine on this issue. This way is long and not easy, but it actually gives the country and the city new opportunities in the world," Zasadnyi said.

According to him, there is a huge amount of work, and the main difference between the Olympics and Euro 2012 is longer period of time and more complex logistical issues.

"Euro has shown that we can cope with large events, and could successfully host the quarterfinals and the semifinals," Zasadnyi added.
