Economic development and trade minister of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko paid visit to Russia. The goal of the visit was to conduct negotiations on the elimination of trade barriers hampering the development of economic relations between the countries.

As ForUm learned from the Economy Ministry press office, within the framework of his visit, Poroshenko met economic development minister of Russia Andrei Belousov and industry and trade minister of Russia Denis Manturov.

During the meetings, Poroshenko stressed the need to develop and implement the plan for liberalization and the subsequent complete elimination of existing trade restrictions, applying zero-option principle.

The parties stated that the expansion of trade and economic cooperation, the implementation of a number of projects in energy, metallurgy, engineering, scientific and technical and humanitarian spheres will contribute to the growth of trade and mutually beneficial cooperation between the states.

Pursuant to the agreements reached on August 2, the Russian government considered a draft decision on granting Ukraine quotas for the supply of pipes to the Russian market in the second half of 2012.

Poroshenko believes that the adoption of the decision will restore full development of pipe industry of Ukraine, save jobs and create conditions for the revival of markets for domestic steelmakers.
