The law on principles of the state language policy fully corresponds with the tenth article of the Constitution that guarantees the all-round development and functioning of the Ukrainian language, as well as free development, use and protection of the minority languages, the MP and the deputy chairman of the parliamentary faction of the Party of Regions Vadym Kolesnichenko announced, the press service of the Party of Regions told ForUm.

"The language law fully corresponds with the tenth article of the Constitution, and the speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn confirmed having signed the law," the politician said.

Moreover, according to Kolesnichenko, the law conforms to universal moral principles, as well as the European Charter on regional and minority languages. "The law gives the right, but does not oblige anyone to speak his native language. And it maintains the priority of the Ukrainian language as the state in accordance with the provisions of our Constitution," he added.

According to him, as of today, more than 18 regional and city councils have supported the "language" law. "The fact that we have collected more than one million signatures in support for the language law proves that Ukrainians respect this law," Kolesnichenko said.
