Men commit suicide more often than women, the director of the Institute of Philosophy, Sociology and Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia Gevorg Poghosyan said during a teleconference bridge Kyiv-Moscow-Yerevan-Chisinau-Astana, as ForUm correspondent reports.

"In the CIS countries men commit six-seven suicide attempts out of 10 attempts. Basically, these are men older 30 years. The reason is difficult socio-economic situation. The economic crisis has influenced it a lot. According to the statistics, people usually commit suicide during the day, the period of social activity, rather than at night. The suicide attempts are less in number in hot countries, than in cold," Poghosyan said.

"Except extremely private reasons, there are common socio-economic factors that influence the growing trend of suicides. In addition to emergency services and proper lessons at schools, the government support and the solidarity are very important either. The more social support there is the less suicide cases occur. Only 30% of attempts out of all end in death, so the attempts to commit suicide are actually 3 times more than official figures show us," he said.
