Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia celebrated a solemn prayer service in Kyiv, at St. Volodymyr's Hill near the monument to St. Volodymyr the Great in honor of the Baptism of Kyiv Rus-Ukraine, ForUm correspondent reports.
The event was attended by the higher church leaders and the government officials, including foreign minister Kostyantyn Hryshchenko, the first deputy head of Kyiv City State Administration Oleksandr Mazurchak, the adviser to the President Hanna Herman, the justice minister Oleksandr Lavrynovych.
In addition, a few hundred worshipers came to the prayer.
Patriarch Kirill congratulated the present on the Day of the Baptism of Kyiv Rus. "The choice of Prince Vladimir became the choice of the people. We cannot even imagine how difficult was to make this step. I am sure at that time there were people who said that he made a mistake, but with the baptism Rus made its civilizational choice," he said.
After the service, the faithful moved in the procession from the Volodymyr's Hill to the Volodymyr Cathedral.
