In the first half year, the fines of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine (ACU), imposed on the violators of competition law, amounted to USD 652 million, the acting chairman of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine Rafael Kuzmin told a press conference, ForUm correspondent reports.

According to the official, this year fines exceed five times the fines for the same period in 2011. "The sharp increase in penalties is associated with the cartel activation on the market. We can not tolerate this, so we decided to strengthen the sanctions. Cartel is a collusion of the operators, some kind of planned economy on the market," the expert said.

He informed that in the first half year the AMC has identified and prevented approximately 2870 violations, which is 76% more than in January-June 2011. Among the total number of violations are 1195 cases of abuse of monopoly, 277 anti-competitive collusions, 189 cases of unfair competition (including false advertising), as well as 535 anti-competitive actions of state authorities.
Kuzmin named the housing and utilities, agriculture, energy and health sectors among the major markets where violations take place more often.
