The government is to create conditions for the development of agriculture and the provision of people with quality and affordable products, the Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, ForUm learned from the Cabinet’s press office.
According to him, one of the key ways to ensure sustainable growth of the domestic market is to encourage the development of agriculture: "The growth in demand for agricultural products by 1% gives a 2.1% increase in GDP," Azarov said.
He stressed that agriculture solves not only the problem of food security, but is also able to solve a range of social problems in Ukraine.
First of all it concerns the quality and availability of food products.
"Every Ukrainian family should have a full range of food products on its table in any season," Azarov said.
The head of the government stressed that there is an urgent need to work out a set of measures which would stimulate the development of domestic agriculture.
