Today, Ukraine and the European Union will sign the additional agreement to amend the already signed visa facilitation agreement.

It is expected that the document will be signed by the EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule and the Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kostyantyn Hryschenko in Brussels.

The agreement amends already signed visa facilitation agreement, extending the list of categories of people falling under the simplified procedure for obtaining visas to the EU member states.

Signing of the agreement provoked harsh debate in the EU. Thus, after on July 5, the European Commission recommended the EU Council to sign the document, some politicians urged Brussels not to do so due to the current situation in Ukraine.

The MPs of the European Parliament introduced this question for separate discussion, during which the opponents of signing were outvoted. The majority of the EU MPs strongly supported the signing of this document.
