This year the state budget has allocated more than four billion hryvnais for constructing, reconstruction, repair and maintenance of streets, communal roads and local high-ways, Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov said at the meeting with representatives of the public unions on road safety, ForUm correspondent reports. The PM also informed that 15 billion hryvnias have been provided for construction and repair of main lines and national roads.

"For the last two years we have repaired and put into operation about three thousand km of roads," Azarov specified.

"We can see there is improvement, but the situation on road safety is not satisfactory yet," he added. Azarov informed that each year about 300 thousand of new cars appear on the roads. "We have constant growth of the number of vehicles, which lead to traffic jams and increased number of accidents. These and other factors affect the safety of traffic," the Premier said.

The PM also noted that the human factor is one of the principal causes of the accidents - drivers get tired and fall asleep while driving.
