Over the past two years, nearly three thousand km of roads were built and renovated in Ukraine, the Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said during the Cabinet’s meeting, ForUm correspondent reports.
"I want to remind you that despite the complexity of the post-crisis period, we have built and repaired nearly three thousand kilometers of roads in the last two years, within the framework of preparation for Euro 2012 including. This is 7 times more than in 2008-2009," he said.

According to the Prime Minister, the Government is aware that the local transport infrastructure, especially in rural areas, needs to be improved.

"I am convinced that the roads should be of the same quality across the whole country - in the capital, in regional and district centers and in small towns and villages. Therefore, the state and local budgets 2012 allocated a substantial share, more than 4 billion UAH, for the construction, reconstruction, repair and maintenance of streets and roads," Azarov said.

This fact, according to him, dispels the myth about all public funds were directed exclusively at projects in four Euro 2012 host cities.

According to the Prime Minister, as of June 1 the local budgets accumulated 1 billion 114 million UAH for road works.

"However, the budget execution report shows that the local authorities do not need these funds, since they utilize these funds too slowly. In some regions, such as Kirovohrad, Sumy, Uzhgorod regions, the application of funds does not exceed 10%. In Kharkiv regions it stands for 0%," Azarov said.
