Regional Development Ministry to tighten control over discharges of untreated sewage into the water
During the meeting on the implementation of the Drinking Water of Ukraine state program, chaired by the PM Azarov, the acting minister of the Regional Development, Construction and Housing and Communal Services Ministry of Ukraine Oleksandr Alipov said the Ministry insists on tightening control over discharges of untreated sewage into the water, ForUm correspondent reports.

"The discharge of untreated sewage into environment is one of the main factors that negatively affect the water quality. The Regional Development Ministry insists on tightening control over the compliance with the norms of environmental law. It is necessary to strengthen the responsibility for their violation. Fines for discharging untreated waste should sufficient enough to carry out a full restoration of polluted water, completely eliminating the harm caused," Alipov said.

According to him, Ukrainian citizens should understand plain logic: if you take water from nature - come back it even cleaner.

"To date, 1246 domestic and 731 industrial discharge structures outflow to surface water bodies. Out of them, the structures without purification system or with a system, which does not comply with state norms, make up 32.8% and 29.7% respectively. In 2011, the centralized systems of drainage without purification system discharged 57.76 million cubic meters of waste water," he replied.
