Paying a visit to the Desnyanska waterworks, the PM of Ukraine Mykola Azarov said that in Ukraine, the Drinking Water program progressed considerably over the past two years.

"Let us discuss the implementation of the Drinking Water program. It relates not only to Kyiv but to the whole Ukraine. In Kyiv, its pace is satisfactory. The first thing to attract attention to - is the protection of water sources," he said.

According to the Prime Minister in 2008-2009 this program was not funded at all.
"The construction of objects started, then it stopped, froze, and as a result we have the outdated documentation. We have to apply efforts to restore the pace of work," the head of the government said.

Azarov also mentioned that in Ukraine in 2011, 125 pumping stations were built, 731 km of water supply systems was laid, 200 water quality control laboratories were repaired, 701 water purification plants were installed.

"For two years the Drinking water program progressed considerably. This is important because the deterioration level of the sewage treatment plants is 60%, pump stations - 50%, and water loss is 40%, " he said.

Azarov also advised the participants to travel to think about what specifically should be done to restore the pace of development of the program, because now the Ministry of Finance is working on 2013 Ukraine state budget.
