The general trend of the aging Ukrainian population creates the burden of the labor market, the social psychologist Viktor Pushkar said during the as the roundtable "Discrimination based on age: why the age of the worker becomes the main criterion for employment" ForUm correspondent reports.
"The problem gets aggravated by the fact that many companies do not deliberately hire people aged 40-45 years, assuming that these workers will work worse. In fact, it often turns out the opposite: the experienced staff with stable psychic proves themselves better than the youth. The mature aged people deserve decent engagement of their competence," the analyst said.
In his view, the problem can and should be solved through the labor legislation, including bringing the case before the court. "Also, there is a need of help from the state, starting from initiating a dialogue with the companies and ending with propaganda that age is not an obstacle to professionalism," the expert concluded.
