Hunger strikers committee chairman was hospitalized

Last night, on July 16, another hunger striker participating in protest against the language law near the Ukrainian House, the hunger strikers committee chairman Petro Shkutyak was hospitalized, the spokeswoman of the committee Oksana Nezhivenko told a briefing.

"This night, the chairman of our committee Petro Shkutyak was hospitalized," she said. However, she thanked on behalf of the hunger strikers to all those who care about them and worried about their health, adding that the protesters will continue their hunger strike.

"Our position is final, deliberate and irrevocable. We stay here to protect the Ukrainian language, freedom of speech and human rights, with the only requirement: the abolition of the draft law on principles of the national language policy," she said.

The hunger strikers also reported that, despite the hospitalizing of individual participants of the strike, they are joined by new people, and as of Monday morning 11 people already participated in the strike. During the briefing, they were joined by the 12th hunger striker.
