The President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych has appealed to the citizens of Ukraine on occasion of the 22nd anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration on State sovereignty, the press office of the Head of State informed.
"22 years have passed since the adoption of the Declaration on the State sovereignty of Ukraine. This legislation act opened the way to Ukraine's independence.
The key tenets of the Declaration remain the cornerstone of the modern national state, the foundation of domestic and foreign policy. The provisions of the act defined over two decades ago, even today are the pointer and the source of inspiration for those who carry out reforms in all spheres of public life," the statement says.
In addition, the President added that "we can certainly say that the basic principles embodied in the document on July 16, 1990, are implemented. Ukraine develops as an independent, democratic and constitutional state."
