The Russian President Vladimir Putin stated the need to make every effort to increase the Russian-Ukrainian goods turnover, he said on the eve of the Russian-Ukrainian Interstate Commission meeting.
In turn, Yanukovych said that the goods turnover between Russia and Ukraine in 2011 exceeded 55 billion dollars, but in 2012 this figure is not very high due to weather conditions - "harsh winter" in particular.
"In total turnover of Russia, Ukraine has about 6.2% - a rather big number. Ukraine ranks the fifth, I think, among our major trading partners, and we will do our best to eliminate the small glitch, which you mentioned (in the first quarter of this year) as quickly as possible," Putin said.
"I am absolutely confident that this year we will achieve not worse results than we had the last year, and maybe even will exceed this result," the President of Russia said.
Putin said that Russia and Ukraine plan to implement a number of large-scale projects and expressed confidence in their success.
