Subsequent to the results of the meeting of the Ukrainian-Russian Interstate commission, Viktor Yanukovych and the Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the Joint Statement on Maritime Delimitation in the Black and Azov Seas and in the Kerch Strait, ForUm learned from the President’s press office.

"The parties believe it is important to carry out the delimitation of maritime spaces in the Azov and Black Seas, as well as in the Kerch Strait in the spirit of friendship, good neighborliness and strategic partnership, taking into account the legitimate interests of both countries," the Statement says.

In this regard, both parties consider it expedient to conclude the corresponding bilateral agreement after reaching a consensus on all the mentioned maritime spaces.

The document also notes the intention of the parties to collaborate in the Azov-Kerch water area, including the stable operation and development of the Kerch-Yenikalsky channel through the establishment of the Ukrainian-Russian management corporation.

According to the Statement, Ukraine and Russia are to intensify bilateral cooperation in the field of navigation, fisheries, marine environmental protection and ecological safety, as well as in other fields, in order to finalize the relevant agreements
