Yanukovych hopes that improvement of the Constitution won’t become an object for mischief-making
The President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych hopes that domestic politicians will be wise enough not to speculate about methods to improve the Constitution, but will take active part in the Constitutional Assembly sessions to peed up the process, the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych said during the informal meeting with the Club of Editors of the CIS countries, the Baltic States and Georgia.

"I hope our politicians will support this initiative at a very early stage," Yanukovych said.

The President said that it is not a secret that the Ukrainian Constitution often becomes "a hostage of the political struggle." But now there is a need to modernize it in accordance with our obligations to the Council of Europe and for the successful implementation of reforms that partly involve some of the provisions of the Basic Law.

For this reason, Yanukovych supported the initiative of the first President of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk on the establishment of the Constitutional Assembly. The President reminded that this year the first meeting of this body has been already held, in which the best lawyers, experts and famous public figures were engaged. The President stressed that their goal is "to offer the country a modern and harmonious provisions of the Constitution."
