Over the past three months Lukyanivka pretrial detention centre (PDC) № 13 managed to unload its cells, the acting director Pavlo Holubovsky said during a press conference, as ForUm correspondent reports.

According to him, as of today the institution is not overcrowded due to the existing Ukrainian standards.

"Three months ago, there were 3.400 prisoners in the facility, despite the fact that the institution is rated for 3 thousand prisoners max. Currently there are 3.200 people in 350 wards in the pretrial detention centre," he said.

Holubovsky also reported that the wards in Kyiv detention center are being repaired regularly, and the reconstruction of the working premises has already started.

"10 wards were renovated in 2011, now we plan to fix the infirmary, kitchens and showers. The All-Ukrainian union of agencies and institutions of the Prison Service has provided the charitable help to the pretrial detention centre, including computers, printers, air conditioners and furniture for staff," Holubovsky summed up.
