The National Bank of Ukraine will be able to control the activities of payment systems. The NBU is empowered to carry out its monitoring and evaluation for compliance with Ukrainian legislation and international standards, as well as the need to provide guidance, recommendations and implement measures up to the fines, suspension of the certain services and a complete prohibition of work.
The NBU has received these powers in accordance with the law "On the depository system" adopted and promulgated on July 6. According to the document, the NBU will maintain a register of payment systems, settlement systems, the participants of these systems and the operators of the payment infrastructure services. In addition, the National Bank has got the right to establish the following categories of payment systems: systemically important, important and socially important, and requirements to them, as ForUm informs.
