The President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych is confident that the Shakhtar football club will become the club of the European level, he said during his speech at the celebrations of 80th anniversary of Donetsk region, ForUm learned from President’s press office.
"Since football team was headed by Rinat Akhmetov, the Shakhtar is steadily moving toward its goal - to become the club of the European level," Yanukovych said, adding that winning the UEFA Cup in 2009 is one of the real evidence of this.
The President stressed that the Shakhtar football team has long been a "visiting card" of Donetsk region. "Moreover, out favorite city Donetsk, successfully hosted the European football championship," he stressed.
