The great success of Euro-2012 is one score up to Ukraine, President's aide Roman Shpek told the roundtable "Euro-2012: The first results".

"The tournament success is the merit of both the authorities and ordinary citizens, who sincerely welcomed foreign guests and offered their help," he said.

According to the specialists the preparation period was too much politicized. "Everyone's concern was whether this or that European minister or state official will come. But how are they better than ordinary fans? It was ordinary fans, who brought money in Ukraine buying beer, coffee, souvenirs, tickets, etc., while foreign officials don't spend money, as their states pay for them," Shpek stressed.

The official also added that the organizers of the event failed to define an average European fan. "We were expecting rich people, were building expensive hotels. But the majority of fans appeared to be ordinary citizens, happy with camp sites, and expensive hotels stood unoccupied. Restaurants also failed to understand an average fan. In order to serve so many people, even expensive restaurants could have hired students for short-term contracts. I noticed that the serving time sometimes exceeded half a hour, while fans merely needed fast and tasty food," the expert summed up.
