If we fail to stabilize the work of the Verkhovna Rada, we will need to hold the early parliamentary elections, the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych said at the meeting with the leadership of the Parliament and the parliamentary factions, ForUm learned from the President’s press office.
"We should do everything to make Parliament continue working, to end this session and, of course, to start new session in September this year. This is the main task," Viktor Yanukovych said.
"However, I think that before starting the procedure of the early elections holding, we have to exhaust all our possibilities. The negotiations in the factions between MPs, the negotiations with the leaders of the opposition factions and also with the speaker of the Verkhovna Rada are to be held," the President said. "I think until we go through this process, we won’t discuss any other issues," he added.
Yanukovych considers, if the Parliament is able to work today, all the negotiations should be conducted during the breaks.
The meeting was attended by the vice speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Adam Martyniuk, the head of the Party of Regions faction Oleksandr Yefremov, the chairman of the Reforms for the Future parliamentary group Ihor Rybakov, the chairman of the People's Party faction Ihor Sharov, the chairman of the Communist Party faction Petro Symonenko, the head of the President’s Administration Serhiy Liovochkin, the representative of the President in the Parliament Yuri Miroshnichenko, the NSDC Secretary Andriy Klyuyev.
