The Parliament cannot consider a draft resolution on the Kyiv mayor elections before receiving the relevant proposals from the city council, the speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn told a briefing in the Parliament.

Responding the question whether a draft resolution on the Kyiv mayor elections will be considered on Thursday, the speaker said: "There will be no draft resolution, while I do not rule out passing some initiatives. The fact is that from a formal point of view, Leonid Chernovetsky filed a petition for early termination of his powers the day or several days before the actual termination. In such a situation it is necessary for the Kyiv city council to make a decision and appeal to the Parliament of Ukraine with a proposal to hold elections, specifying the date of the elections."

"I sent a corresponding letter to the secretary of the Kyiv City Council and received an answer that the issue is to be considered at the city council session on July 12 this year," Lytvyn said.

On Friday, July 6, at 12.00, the current session of the Parliament is to be closed.
