Euro-2012 football championship is Ukraine's one step closer to the European Union, President of Poland Bronislaw Komorowski said at a joint press conference with Ukraine's President Viktor Yanukovych, a ForUm correspondent reports.
"Ladies and gentlemen, though Ukraine and Poland are not among the final winners, it is a fact that both our countries have won. We are the organizers of the championship. WE wanted this championship to become a demonstration of our cooperation. And we've made it. The world has seen that Ukraine and Poland can cooperate. I want to express my sincere thanks and congratulations. I want to express special thanks to co-organizers and border services," Komorowski said.
The President of Poland mentioned there were concerns the border services might have some difficulties. "But it was a model cooperation and we managed to set easy and comfortable travel between our countries," he underlined.
Komorowski also added that Ukraine has proved her course towards European integration. "I want to congratulate you on this success and to tell you 'Go ahead, Ukraine!'," he summed up.
