Giving the interview to Agence France-Presse, the German professor Dr. Fritz Soergel said that the Ukrainian team had taken banned substances before the start of Euro 2012.

According to him, a food poisoning, which "mowed off" the team before the friendly match with Turkey was the consequence of taking dope.

"I think it's a side effect of the dexamethasone drug taking. This is a steroid. It is known that the classical side effect of dexamethasone is an upset stomach, nausea and vomiting," Soergel said.

The dexamethasone was banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency. It is used to reduce joint inflammation and treat damaged ligaments.

However, before the Euro 2012, the football team of Ukraine took mandatory anti-doping tests. The UEFA experts tested all the players for illicit drugs.
