
The law "On sea ports" was adopted on May 17 by the parliament and signed on June 8 by the President.
According to the document, the Cabinet of Ministers will regulate the activities in sea ports to provide safe operation of port infrastructure. The law also provides for complex development and improvement of competitiveness of sea ports, equal access to sea port services.
The paragraph 25 of the law regarding the privatization of sea port property still causes hot discussions in the parliament. According to the paragraph, the state-owned assets and 100% of capital stock can be submitted for tenders. The tender conditions also provide for rent of the sea port property for up to 49 years.
The law does not cover the river ports, the sea fishing ports, the Ukrainian Naval Forces stations, the coast guard of the executive power central body, that ensure the state policy implementation of the state borders protection, as well as the naval ships stations of foreign countries, that temporarily located in the territory of Ukraine according to the international treaties of Ukraine.
