"The Minister noted that on June 20 with the assistance of the Embassy of Ukraine in Libya the board of public lawyers in Tripoli appealed the judgment on the case of 19 Ukrainians sentenced to 10 year imprisonment. The defence is provided at the expense of the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine," the report says.
The diplomats of the Embassy regularly attend Ukrainians, supplying them with food, hygienic items and providing an opportunity to communicate with family by phone.
"Hryshchenko expressed the words of support for the relatives of the convicted Ukrainians, assuring that he and all the Ukrainian diplomacy is concerned about the fate of the compatriots who found themselves in difficult circumstances and will take all the measures for their quick return to Ukraine," the report underlines.
On August 27, 2011, Libyan rebel battalion Kakaa detained the group of citizens of Belarus, Ukraine and Russia. The whole group was charged with restoring military hardware used by the Muammar Gaddafi regime “to exterminate the Libyan people.”
On September 3, thanks to the efforts of the Russian embassy in Tripoli, the group was set at liberty. However, on September 6, they were detained again on September 6 on suspicion of involvement in the maintenance and modernization of tanks for the forces led by former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.
