The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved a draft agreement on the interregional and cross-border cooperation between Ukraine and the Republic of Belarus, ForUm learned from the press office of the Regional Development, Construction and Housing Ministry of Ukraine.

"The purpose of the agreement is to create an appropriate legal framework to strengthen the direct economic links between the regions of both countries, including the border ones. The implementation of the tasks provided will contribute to the full development of the regions, in particular, improving the infrastructure at the border areas, neutralizing the negative impact of the borders on the local population life quality," the regional development, construction and housing minister of Ukraine Anatoly Blyzniuk said, representing the draft agreement during the government’s meeting.

The agreement provides for the deepening and developing the interregional and cross-border cooperation, initiating the joint programs and projects, information exchange, interaction of responsible for the regional development of the authorities of both countries under the implementation of the joint activities. The agreement will be valid for five years and will be automatically renewed, unless either party decides to terminate it.

As reported, on March 1, 2012, the State Veterinary and Phytosanitary Service of Ukraine suspended the import into the territory of Ukraine of milk and dairy products from Belarus, as well as the animals susceptible to ASF, the products and raw materials from them.

On May 3, Belarus lifted the restrictions relating to access of the Ukrainian beer producers to the Belarusian market.
