The grateful reaction of the foreign fans visiting Ukraine, as well as of the football officials, once again confirms that Europe had carried out a planned media campaign against Ukraine, the secretary of National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDCU) Andriy Kluyiev said, commenting on the recent statements made by the deputy director of the football department of the British police Tony Konnifordom and the English head coach Roy Hodgson, ForUm learned from the NSDCU press office.
According to Kluyiev, the officials from various countries and the members of the European football teams said that all the fears of fans, based on rumors circulating in the media, were groundless.
"I am very happy to note that the European countries citizens praise our country. Much of what they heard on TV, especially about racism, has proved to be absolutely untrue. The foreign fans are positive about the huge amount of work we’ve done, hospitality and friendliness of Ukrainian people and the Euro-2012 participants," Kluyiev said.
The NSDCU secretary expressed his confidence that Ukraine and Poland will host the finals at the same high level, already marked by the foreign colleagues.
"I would not be mistaken if I say that, for example, the position of the English coach Roy Hodgson is based on his reputable coaching experience, rather than on a desire to make a curtsy for the error of the Hungarian judge in favor of England," Kluyiev said.
As reported, the English head coach Roy Hodgson told a press conference that the fears of many English football fans proved to be groundless upon their arrival in Ukraine and Poland.
"There were a lot of fears in the media, how this tournament will look like and so on. I think that many of our fans did not come here because they read some horror stories may take place in Ukraine and Poland. But I can say that we were cordially welcomed. It is a great pity that Poland and Ukraine will not participate in the tournament’s finals," the English coach said.
The deputy director of the football department of the British police Tony Konnifordom noted he is satisfied cooperating with the Ukrainian policemen and highly appreciated the level of preparations for the tournament hosting.
The law enforcement officials from Portugal, Germany and Poland, present at the press conference, positively evaluated the safety measures level in Ukraine.
