"Throughout the world there is no politician involved in such a large number of criminal cases, as Yulia Tymoshenko is. But now it is important to clarify this matter from a legal point of view. To do that, Ukraine applied for the expert conclusion of the Skadden American company," Yanukovych said.
Earlier, the President said that the issue of Tymoshenko’s pardon can only be determined after the consideration of the criminal case under the cassational procedure, requiring, besides, the petition of Tymoshenko herself.
"Yes, of course, I'm sorry for Yulia Tymoshenko. But my compassion is not the whole matter. I want this process to be completed as soon as possible and the court to deliver a fair decision," said the President in an interview, excerpts of which are published on the newspaper’s web site.
Responding the question about a possible pardon of the former Prime Minister, the parole, in particular, the President said: "When the criminal case is considered, the question of how to proceed will arise before me. I will seek the opportunities for a humane solution."
The President of Ukraine reminded of his support of the initiative proposed by the head of the European Parliament Martin Schulz on the admission to the process of Tymoshenko's the former EP President Pat Cox and the former Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski. Moreover, Yanukovych reminded that the requirements of the European Court of Human Rights on the establishment of the conditions necessary for Tymoshenko’s treatment are being met.
