The condition of the Ukrainian beaches this year is much better than it was the last one, the head of the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service of Ukraine Anatoly Ponomarenko told a briefing in the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, ForUm correspondent reports.

According to him, as of today 639 beaches are officially opened (more than 56% of all the beaches in Ukraine), 607 of which are sea beaches.

He also stressed that no anomalies or infections were detected in the Dnipro River and the lakes in Kyiv. "It means that people can swim without the risk of catching an infectious disease even on beaches not opened officially," Ponomarenko said.

Speaking of the sanitary-epidemiological situation in the cities hosting Euro 2012, he noted that only 11 cases of seeking medical advice by foreign fans were registered in all four host cities.

"The patients were made different unrelated diagnoses. This indicates a favorable epidemiological situation in the places of stay of the fans," Ponomarenko said.
